About Vishwakarma Puja(উৎসব পরিচিতি)
Vishwakarma Puja is one of the most distinctive festivals in Bengal, dedicated to Lord Vishwakarma — the divine craftsman, architect, and engineer of the universe. Unlike most Hindu festivals which follow lunar tithis, Vishwakarma Puja is fixed according to solar astronomy and always falls on Kanya Sankranti (September 17).
From industrial factories, auto repair shops, printing presses, and construction sites to IT tech hubs and engineering offices across West Bengal, workers clean their tools, decorate machinery with marigold garlands, and perform puja. In Kolkata and surrounding districts, Vishwakarma Puja is also famous for the autumn kite-flying festival ('Ghuri Urona'), where colorful kites fill the sky in friendly neighborhood duels.
In Bengal's industrial history, Vishwakarma Puja became a day of solidarity, gratitude, and safety for craftsmen, weavers, jute mill workers, and engineers.
The afternoon kite-flying battles (Ghuri Urona) from rooftops across Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly mark the informal arrival of autumn and the countdown to Durga Puja.
